Your Annual Data Protection Compliance Checklist
A twelve-point annual review to keep your Jamaican business's data-protection compliance current as the organisation changes.

This module is general information, not legal advice, and is being reviewed by our legal team. For your specific situation, consult the official Data Protection Act, 2020 or seek professional advice.
What you will learn
- Why compliance is continuous, not a one-time project
- The twelve areas your annual review should cover
- How to turn the review into a compliance calendar
A company can create excellent policies today and become out of date six months later. Why? Because businesses change. You hire employees, adopt software, launch products, change websites, appoint suppliers, collect new information, enter new markets and change processes.
Privacy compliance must therefore be maintained.
Your annual review should consider
- Personal Data Register, does it still reflect what you actually do?
- Privacy notices, are they accurate?
- Retention schedule, are retention rules being followed?
- Processors, have you added or removed suppliers?
- International transfers, has your technology stack changed?
- Security, are appropriate controls still operating?
- Staff training, who requires training or renewal?
- Incidents, what lessons came from incidents or near misses?
- Data-subject requests, were requests handled effectively?
- Risks, are outstanding actions completed?
- DPIA, prepare and review the information needed for applicable DPIA obligations.
- Registration information, check whether organisational particulars have changed and whether applicable registration requirements are being maintained.
Make compliance continuous
Jamaica Privacy Hub can convert these activities into a compliance calendar. Instead of remembering everything manually, the dashboard can show, for example:
- 3 actions due;
- 1 processor review due;
- 2 training renewals;
- 1 high risk outstanding; and
- annual review 78% complete.
Legal note. This module is general information about Jamaica's Data Protection Act, 2020, not legal advice. Completing this review does not by itself make an organisation compliant. For your situation, consult the Act or a qualified professional.
Put this into practice
